Workplace violence is one of the most complex and dangerous occupational hazards facing health care workers today. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, health care and social service workers suffered 76% of all nonfatal workplace violence injuries in 2020. Emergency department (ED) nurses report being punched, kicked, beaten and assaulted on the job and some have faced shootings, stabbings and hostage situations.
The best indicator of a patient’s risk for future violence is a history of violence. Tracking this history, however, can be challenging and inconsistent. To assist with this challenge, California hospitals can connect to ED Optimization (or EDie) — a care collaboration platform developed by Collective Medical, a PointClickCare Company and HASC Endorsed Business Partner. Hospitals connected to EDie can create and receive network security and safety alerts that are shared across multiple electronic medical record systems.
Join Kate Dowd, BSW, MA, strategic clinical solutions manager at PointClickCare, to learn how ED Optimization identifies any history of security events from across the state and national networks. The platform then sends a real-time notification back to the ED, allowing staff to prepare accordingly, improving the ED experience for patients and assisting your hospital in preventing or reducing violent incidents.
