DOL Nursing Expansion Grants: Apply by Jan. 6

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced an $80 million funding opportunity through its Nursing Expansion Grant Program. The grants are intended to address nursing shortages and workforce development challenges through expanding the pipeline of professionals, advancing equity and creating pathways for workers to fill jobs. Applications are due Jan. 6.

Administered by the DOL’s Employment and Training Administration, the nursing expansion grants focus on creating pathways for people from historically underrepresented populations. A particular aim is to help increase employment equity and improve health care workforce diversity. The grants also emphasize research and evidence-based practices, supportive services and training that address barriers to becoming nurses.

Grant applicants must propose training program models that attract employees, unions, worker organizations and employers. The models also should include partnerships with community-based organizations and training institutions.
