2024 Scholarship Winners Announced

Diversity in Health Care Scholarship and Stipend Program - graduate student with child

Communities Lifting Communities (CLC) and HASC are pleased to award 11 health care scholarships and three stipends through the 2024 Health Care Scholarship and Stipend Program.

Launched in 2023, the program was created to help reduce health disparities and improve community health throughout Southern California by fostering a more inclusive workforce. It aims to achieve this goal by reducing the financial burden for students and interns, especially those from underrepresented communities, as they pursue health care careers.

The scholarship program is open to all employees of HASC member hospitals enrolled in an undergraduate or a graduate health care degree program. Special consideration is given to applicants from communities historically underrepresented in health care. College to Career Development Internship Program interns may apply for the Stipend Assistance Program after being matched to a host member hospital.

After carefully reviewing all applications, CLC and HASC are pleased to announce the 2024 scholarship and stipend recipients:

Undergraduate awards ($2,500):

  • Hovik Baghdeserian, anesthesia tech, Huntington Health
  • David Ramirez, clinical care partner, Huntington Health
  • Anabel Valdez, medical assistant, Providence Health and Services

Graduate awards ($3,000):

  • Audrey Argueta, emergency room clinical supervisor, St. Francis Medical Center
  • Lien Hy, registered nurse, Huntington Health
  • Sioun Lee, project manager, Providence Medical Foundation
  • Brisa Martinez, cardiovascular technologist, Hoag Hospital Newport Beach
  • Anthony Odii, certified nurse assistant, Centinela Hospital Medical Center
  • Debby Osorio, senior medical office representative, Providence Saint John’s Health Center
  • Adam Ruacho, trauma program manager, St. Francis Medical Center
  • Mary Zakaryan, registered nurse, Huntington Health

Stipend awards ($2,000):

  • Abby Choy, intern, Communities Lifting Communities
  • Adriana Toledo, intern Community Health San Bernardino (CommonSpirit Health)
  • Robyn Wright, intern, Community Health San Bernardino (CommonSpirit Health)

CLC and HASC are proud to have established the Health Care Scholarship and Stipend Program with generous support from:

We hope the program will help address the ongoing shortage of health care professionals and encourage more employees to begin, or continue, their careers with HASC member hospitals.
