President's Message

Wildfire Updates

Our heartfelt thoughts go out to our member hospitals and all Southern Californians as we continue facing the devastating and ongoing impact of the wildfires.

HASC deeply appreciates the dedication of our member hospitals as you continue providing critical care to affected patients and communities. Remember that HASC is here to support you, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can assist in any way. We’re also immensely grateful for the courage and commitment of our first responders, as they put their lives on the line day after day to keep us safe throughout this disaster.

I’d like to share an update on HASC’s response to the wildfires, in partnership with public health and emergency service agencies. Our member hospitals are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safety for their patients, staff and communities. While no hospitals have had evacuations so far, the fires are creating substantial operational hurdles that demand coordinated efforts.

HASC’s Response

The association has taken the lead in convening key stakeholders to support hospitals and address obstacles. Efforts include:

  • Coordination Forums: Last week, HASC brought together member hospitals, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Emergency Medical Services Authority, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), the California Department of Public Health, the California Hospital Association (CHA), and the Department of Health Services (DHS). These forums offered a platform for coordination, real-time updates and frontline insights into resource needs and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Resource Allocation: HASC is working closely with affected hospitals to assess changing needs and assist in deploying resources. These efforts include communicating staffing needs, equipment logistics and ensuring operational continuity with agencies.
  • Communications and Advocacy:
    • Member hospitals are staying informed on fire progress and best practices through regular updates.
    • Advocacy ensures that state and local agencies are hearing and prioritizing hospitals’ needs.

HASC’s highest priority is ensuring the safety of patients, hospital staff and the broader community during this crisis. By maintaining strong partnerships and leveraging collective resources, we continue supporting hospitals in their mission to deliver seamless care amid the challenges.

We will continue monitoring conditions, staying connected with key stakeholders, providing updates and convening members as needed. HASC has also posted a regional resource page and CHA has listed federal and state resources for members that will be updated as new information emerges.

Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support and partnership. Again, our thoughts are with you and with our entire community this week and beyond.

Take care and stay safe.
