HASC Endorses Measure ER to Fund Local Health Services

HASC has joined the coalition Yes on ER, adding to the growing effort supporting Measure ER (formerly the Essential Services Restoration Act). The ballot measure proposes to increase the Los Angeles County sales tax from 9.75% to 10.25% for five years to help fund local health departments and services. Voters will decide whether to pass the measure on Tuesday, June 2.

“The Hospital Association of Southern California is proud to stand with Yes on ER in support of Measure ER,” said George W. Greene, President/CEO, HASC. “Southern California’s hospitals are already feeling the strain of an overburdened health care system, and the threat of millions of Angelenos losing their insurance coverage will only deepen that crisis.

“Measure ER is about making sure that when someone walks through our doors, we can actually take care of them,” Greene said. “We urge every voter in Los Angeles County to support Measure ER and protect access to care for all Angelenos.”

After the passage of H.R.1, millions of Angelenos are at risk of losing their insurance coverage, and L.A. County’s health care safety net is at risk of collapse. Passing Measure ER will help keep clinics open and cover low-income, uninsured residents so all Angelenos have easy access to primary and preventive services.

In the coming days, Yes on ER will hold two events to raise awareness of and support for the measure. The first, a virtual town hall, will take place Wednesday, April 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Speakers will include health care workers, patients and community leaders who will share about how Measure ER will protect care for our communities. Registration is free and attendees will receive the meeting link when signing up.

The coalition also invites the public to join Code Blue: March and Rally to Save Healthcare on Thursday, May 7, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. The event will begin at 1741 East 120th Street, Los Angeles (across from MLK Community Healthcare) and end with a rally at the Earvin “Magic” Johnson Recreation Area, 905 East El Segundo Blvd.
