President’s Message From George W. Greene

This week, many of us will gather around tables with our families and friends and take time to reflect on what we’re most thankful for. The year certainly has brought both familiar and unexpected challenges. Despite the continuance of COVID-19, our hospitals’ commitment to caring for all Southern California’s residents has not wavered — they have continued to safeguard […]

President’s Message From George W. Greene

On Wednesday, HASC was named the 2021 Corporate Honoree at the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation’s (LAEDC) Eddy Award ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. HASC accepted the award on behalf of our hospital partners and their amazing health care professionals for their tireless work and dedication through the last 20-plus months of the pandemic. HASC board members Joe Avelino and Lori […]

Kaiser Strike May Impact Area Facilities

If close to 21,000 Kaiser Permanente nurses and other health professionals strike as promised on Monday the fallout will be far-reaching. By some measures, it would be the nation’s largest strike this year. In response, Kaiser last week shared plans to hire temporary workers, transfer patients to other area hospitals, and discharge other patients to SNFs and other facilities. Kaiser […]

President’s Message from George W. Greene

Resilience, strength and hope. That’s the theme for this year’s National Respiratory Care Week (Oct. 24-30), which runs through Saturday. More than any other time in our history, respiratory care professionals are receiving well-deserved gratitude for helping thousands of patients through this pandemic. Because COVID-19 reduces many patients’ ability to breathe, respiratory therapists are some of the most critical personnel in this […]

Survivor Hatch Onboard for Annual Meeting

HASC has added speakers to its 2022 Annual Meeting roster — with two-time plane crash survivor Austin Hatch (above) now on the agenda.  Hatch will tell how he pushed on after losing his family in aviation disasters in 2003 and 2011, recovering from severe injuries before graduating from Loyola High School in Los Angeles in 2014. He then went on to play basketball at […]

President’s Message from George W. Greene

As COVID-19 cases continue to trend downward — 24 percent in the six-county HASC region over the last two weeks — we’re reminded that vaccines offer a proven pathway to continue this trend. While densely-populated Southern California communities with higher vaccination rates experienced fewer deaths per capita, the state’s rural regions were hit hard. Despite vaccination disparities, all our hospitals […]

Podcast Profile: Endorsed Partner Well Advised

HASC Endorsed Business Partner Well Advised recently joined the association’s strategic communications team for a podcast exploring its artificial intelligence–based service. Mimi Roberson, the company’s COO and a former hospital CEO, joins HASC’s Ana Reza to discuss the online platform’s “game-changing” technology and how it can help Medicare patients. Well Advised reviews Medicare plans from all insurance providers and matches eligible individuals […]

President’s Message from George W. Greene

After experiencing the lowest levels of COVID-19 since last year, hospitalizations in Southern California have swelled by close to 280 percent in the last month. The rapidly rising numbers, the spread of the infectious Delta variant, and unvaccinated populations are concerning as they signal continued increases in hospitalizations over the coming weeks. Fortunately, CDPH has extended […]

HASC Partner GreenRock Offers Funding Option for COVID-19-related Mitigation

The California Department of Public Health recently issued a 60-day notice stating that temporary waivers of specified regulatory requirements will expire on Sept. 30, 2021. Additionally, OSHPD has notified hospitals that all temporary changes of use, or modifications to the physical environment, must be restored to original condition by Nov. 11 (six weeks after the waiver expires). If not restored by the deadline, such temporary changes […]

HASC, Area Partners Team for Vaccination Drive

Working with member hospitals, public health agencies and health plans from across the region, HASC has crafted a social media and communications toolkit that underlines the key role vaccination plays in halting the COVID-19 Delta variant. The toolkit’s messaging is designed to resonate with communities that have lower vaccination rates — including Black, Latinx, and younger adults. HASC’s Summer 2021 Vaccination Communications Toolkit web page will connect […]
