HASC is pleased to welcome two new hospital chief executives. Anthony Coleman, DHA, joined St. Bernardine Medical Center and Community Hospital of San Bernardino as hospital president in June. David Kim, M.D., became chief executive officer of MemorialCare in July.
In his new role, Coleman leads St. Bernardine Medical Center and Community Hospital of San Bernardino under a unified structure within CommonSpirit Health’s Southern California market. He is an accomplished healthcare executive who brings a proven track record of driving organizational growth, operational excellence and expanded access to high-quality patient care.
Throughout his career, Coleman has held executive leadership positions spanning hospital finance, operations and provider relations. His collaborative leadership style and focus on strategic growth have enabled organizations to improve performance while strengthening patient care and community partnerships.
Most recently, Coleman served as president and CEO of Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health in Washington, D.C. where he led the construction, activation and successful opening of a full-service acute care hospital. Under his leadership, the organization increased access to healthcare services, expanded market share and achieved quality and productivity metrics above national benchmarks.
Earlier, Coleman served in leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente’s Fontana and Ontario medical centers. His tenure there provided him with extensive experience serving the Inland Empire community and a deep understanding of the region’s healthcare landscape.
A former U.S. naval officer, Coleman earned his doctorate in health administration and policy from the Medical University of South Carolina.
As president and CEO of MemorialCare, Dr. Kim is directly responsible for oversight of the system’s four hospitals and the MemorialCare Medical Foundation. He also oversees strategy, day-to-day clinical operations and most administrative and support functions. Dr. Kim works closely with MemorialCare’s clinical institutes and research division and partners with physicians across the health system.
He has extensive experience in physician leadership, performance improvement and developing and running utilization management programs, disease management programs and physician compensation systems. Prior to joining MemorialCare, he served as executive vice president and chief executive of the Clinical Network division of Providence, a health system spanning seven states in the Western U.S.
A family medicine physician by training, Dr. Kim served in several leadership roles across Providence, including chief medical officer and chief executive for Providence Medical Foundation – Orange County and High Desert region. There, he partnered with physicians and administrators to help grow Providence into one of the largest physician practice management organizations in California.
Originally from Chicago, Dr. Kim received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine. He served his residency at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Kim also holds his master’s degree in applied physiology from the Chicago Medical School.
