HASC is releasing an early awareness alert about a new regional workforce development initiative that may create future opportunities for Inland Empire healthcare employers. The state’s Employment Development Department has awarded the workforce development boards for San Bernardino County and Riverside County a $1 million regional coordination grant to launch the Inland Empire Upskilling Healthcare Pathways (IE UHP) initiative.
HASC is serving as a partner in this effort, which will focus on strengthening the Inland Empire healthcare workforce. The initiative will coordinate collaboration among regional healthcare employers, educational institutions, workforce development agencies and training providers.
About the Initiative
The IE UHP program is designed to address healthcare workforce shortages by expanding training and career advancement opportunities for Inland Empire residents and incumbent healthcare workers, strengthening the regional healthcare workforce and improving career mobility. Planned focus areas include:
- LVN-to-RN advancement programs
- Upskilling non-patient-serving healthcare staff into certified nursing assistant roles
- Clinical laboratory scientist training
- Medical assistant and community health worker apprenticeship pathways
- Ambulatory RN apprenticeship programs
- Employer engagement with healthcare systems throughout the region
The initiative is expected to support employees in the healthcare sector seeking advancement, while also helping employers address workforce shortages and strengthen talent pipelines.
