Program Offers Patient Care Assistant Training and Employment

Entry-level LA County job seekers aiming to work in health care have an excellent opportunity through the Pacific Gateway Workforce Innovation Network’s Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Training Program. Since it began in 2009, this program has created hundreds of full-time PCA positions, helping program partner MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center fill its workforce needs.

Selected candidates, who are required to hold either a high school diploma or GED, complete seven weeks of training to learn the clinical skills needed to support patients with daily living activities in an acute hospital environment. Program graduates earn a certification in basic life support (BLS) and other skills and may receive full-time employment offers as PCAs at MemorialCare Long Beach.

As one of Southern California’s largest hospitals, MemorialCare offers competitive wages and excellent benefits, including tuition assistance to pursue additional health care education. Many PCAs go on to work as nurses and in other health care specialties because of their PCA training and experience.
