St. John’s Regional Medical Center Earns Prestigious Designation for Robotic Surgery

The Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) has named Dignity Health – St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) an accredited Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. This achievement demonstrates SJRMC’s commitment to delivering the highest quality of surgical care to patients.

“Being recognized as a leader in robotic surgery demonstrates our profound commitment to clinical excellence and advancement in medicine,” says Barry Wolfman, president and CEO of St. John’s Hospitals. “What sets St. John’s apart from other hospitals in the region is our ability and desire to incorporate innovation and technology as a means to deliver the highest quality care to our patients while better serving the needs of our communities.”

Health care facilities and surgeons seeking SRC accreditation undergo an extensive process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volume and outcomes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment.

“Receiving this distinction gives our program the opportunity to continue to provide excellent surgical care to our patients who come to us for a wide variety of needs,” says Dr. Brian Tuai, medical director of robotics at St. John’s Hospitals. “Robotic-assisted surgery has been shown to improve patient outcomes, while reducing complications and allowing for quicker recovery times.”

The Robotic Surgery Program at SJRMC leads the field and provides some of the most advanced surgical treatments for colorectal, urology, gynecology, bariatrics and orthopedics.
