HASC and Communities Lifting Communities (CLC) are pleased to announce the application period for the 2025 CLC Diversity in Health Care Scholarship and Stipend Program. Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, April 1, through Saturday, May 31.
Employees who have worked for a HASC member hospital at least one year and are enrolled in a health care program are invited to apply. Applicants from communities historically underrepresented in health care will receive special consideration.
The organizations launched the scholarship program in 2023 to help grow a more inclusive health care workforce. HASC and CLC look forward to continue breaking down financial barriers for HASC hospital staff, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, who are pursuing health care careers. The program also benefits HASC members by helping employees gain the skills and knowledge to fill urgent hospital vacancies.
In 2023, eight employees received the first Diversity in Health Care Scholarship awards. Of the eight, four students received graduate scholarships for $3,000 and four received undergraduate scholarships for $2,500. Last year, the program expanded to three undergraduate awards, eight graduate awards and three College to Career Development Internship Program (CDIP) stipends.
Awardees were selected based on their HASC hospital employment, academic achievement and community involvement.
Santiago Chambers, director of plant operations at UCI Health – Los Alamitos, received one of the first graduate scholarships. In Nov. 2024, he received his master’s degree in health care administration with a 4.0 grade point average at the University of Arizona Global Campus. The Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce recently honored Chambers as a frontline hero for his dedication to community safety.
CLC and HASC thank LA Care Health Plan, Inland Empire Health Plan, CalOptima, Gold Coast Health, CenCal Health and West Coast University for their generous support. To date, the funding has enabled the program to award a total of 22 scholarships and stipends to high-achieving hospital staff.
