Hospitals across California are facing ongoing workforce shortages in entry-level and allied health roles. Meeting patient demand requires stronger, more intentional talent pipelines. UNITE-LA, a nonprofit promoting equity and economic mobility through education and workforce development, designed its My Pathway to Health (MPTH) program as a practical workforce solution. HASC is proud to partner with UNITE-LA on this initiative.

My Pathway to Health prepares young adults ages 18 to 24 for in-demand careers through paid training, industry-recognized certifications and professional readiness support.

Participants earn credentials aligned with hospital hiring needs, including CPR/BLS, medical assistant, CNA, EMT, phlebotomy, EKG technician and community health worker certifications. Training emphasizes both clinical skills and professional competencies that drive retention and long-term success.

For hospitals, My Pathway to Health isn’t just a training program — it’s a strategic workforce solution. By engaging early with emerging talent, hospitals can:

  • Build reliable pipelines into hard-to-fill entry-level roles such as medical assistant, CNA, patient care and allied health positions
  • Reduce recruitment and onboarding costs
  • Improve retention by hiring candidates who understand workplace expectations and professional standards
  • Advance workforce diversity and strengthen connections to the local community

Hospital partners play a critical role in shaping My Pathway to Health and ensuring alignment with real workforce needs. Opportunities for engagement include:

During the Program

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Recruit employees to serve as volunteer mentors, mock interviewers and guest speakers
  • Host worksite visits
  • Provide space for training or events when feasible

Hiring and Placement

  • Offer entry-level roles, internships or transitional positions
  • Participate in UNITE-LA’s biannual virtual career fairs
  • Develop direct referral pathways from training to employment
