2026 Health Care Scholarship Program Accepting Applications

Communities Lifting Communities (CLC) and HASC are pleased to present the 2026 Health Care Scholarship Program. The program aims to help create a more diverse health workforce by providing financial assistance to students employed at HASC member hospitals. Special consideration is given to those from communities historically underrepresented in health care.

Background

Hospitals across the state urgently need talented, compassionate and diverse professionals to fill positions in primary care, nursing, laboratory technology, administration and other critical roles. Workforce shortages existed even before the COVID-19 pandemic and have only intensified since then.

Addressing these shortages — particularly increasing the number of trained health workers from underrepresented minority (URM) backgrounds — requires a multifaceted approach. No single solution can overcome the many barriers individuals face when entering health care careers. The Health Care Scholarship Program is designed to address one of these key challenges by helping support and expand the pipeline of future health care professionals.

Applying for the 2026 Program

The 2026 application period will run from April 1 to May 31, 2026.

CLC and HASC encourage health care workers and students employed by HASC member hospitals to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in programs leading to a health care degree or certificate program at accredited California schools.

Undergraduate and graduate scholarships range from $2,500 to $3,000.

Goal: Help Address Financial Hurdles

The Health Care Scholarship Program is part of CLC’s mission to help reduce disparities and improve community health in Southern California. It does so by aiming to reduce financial burdens for students, especially URM students, as they pursue health care careers. By helping students reach their goals and increasing health care staff diversity, the program will also help reduce disparities and improve outcomes for hospital patients.
