
Overview
Calling all maternal child health champions! This webinar is intended to support the paradigm shift on how maternal substance use and perinatal substance exposed newborns are addressed in Orange County hospitals. Participants will receive standardized tools to successfully implement the Plan of Safe Care and learn key strategies to enhance communication and service delivery pathways to support mother and baby’s recovery journey. Hosted by OC Health Care Agency and HASC.
Objectives
- Discuss how state and federal laws guide Orange County’s policy development and implementation of the Plan of Safe Care/Family Wellness Plan.
- Describe how to use a standardized risk assessment for all identified perinatal substance exposed newborns in determining the next steps for treatment and reporting to child welfare.
- Access and utilize hospital tools designed to support implementation of the Plan of Safe Care/Family Wellness Plan in Orange County hospitals.
- Discuss the importance of relationship management and communication in building a multidisciplinary team across internal departments and with external partners.
- List at least three benefits of initiating or completing a Plan of Safe Care/Family Wellness Plan for mothers affected by perinatal substance use.

Continuing Education Units
- The Orange County Health Care Agency is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs (Provider # 62340). This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. The Orange County Health Care Agency maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
