HASC Education Programs

Health Care Without Harmful Stigma

September 7, 2023 | 9:30 - 10:30AM PT

Learn how to use weight-inclusive, trauma-informed care to guide patients in attaining sustainable well-being. This workshop will explore how weight bias can degrade health outcomes, contribute to health inequities and intersect with racism, sexism and other biases. How can you provide care that’s inclusive, equitable and accessible to all?

HASC will provide the program recording to those who have registered.

Following this program, you’ll be able to:

  • Define areas of stigma often encountered in health care and education.
  • Determine how bias harms health outcomes and creates health inequities.
  • Identify what you can do now to provide inclusive, diverse and accessible care.

Who should attend?

Clinical leaders, health care educators, hospital administrators and human resources personnel.

Alison St. Germain, MS, RD, LD, Registered Dietitian, St. Germain Nutrition Consulting

St. Germain is the student wellness registered dietitian at Iowa State University and owner of St. Germain Nutrition Consulting. She is a Health for Every Body facilitator and is certified as an intuitive eating counselor and in Craving Change, a cognitive behavioral program. Formerly an associate professor of clinical practice in Iowa State’s food science human nutrition department, St. Germain is enthusiastic about teaching medical professionals and students about health care without stigma. She speaks regularly about weight bias, oppressive intersections of racial and other discrimination, and how to provide diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible care.
