Azusa Pacific University Periop Training Course — Spring 2024

HASC is pleased to continue partnering with Azusa Pacific University (APU), which is offering a perioperative (periop) registered nurse (RN) specialty course in spring 2024. Taking place Feb. 17 through June 1, the course prepares nurses interested in the exciting specialty of perioperative nursing. Labor and delivery (L&D) nurses who need training to circulate for Cesarean deliveries may also benefit. The specialty course is available to all hospitals in the region.

This 16-week course provides novice operating room and L&D nurses with the knowledge and skill to provide safe patient care in the operating room (OR) environment, including the practical training of a clinical preceptorship. All applicants need a confirmed clinical site and a full COVID vaccination (including booster, if eligible), which are required by our host hospital for skills sessions.

Course includes:

  • Online and face-to-face learning from an experienced nurse educator with OR and L&D experience.
  • Access to all Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Periop 101: A Core Curriculum™ course modules, skills checklists and videos; textbooks; and one-year membership in AORN.
  • Classes and skills labs at one of our convenient host hospital sites.
  • Materials, including name tags and books mailed to your home and disposable scrubs/booties/caps for skills sessions.
  • Precepted clinical experience (arranged in collaboration with the RN and hospital).
  • 58 Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved contact hours of continuing education credit from APU, plus 39.8 AORN contact hours for completion of Periop 101: A Core Curriculum™.
  • Coordinated enrollment.
  • Required background check and health status tracker completion (additional fee for CastleBranch or Complio).
